If you are researching which schools are “top ranked” in order to choose a dental school, I offered this personal advice to you: don’t choose a school based on anyone’s opinion of its popularity. Choose a school that suits your personality, learning style, budget, and other factors. Most importantly, visit many schools and you will find one that you like. As long as the school is accredited you will receive a fine education. Also, your future patients will not care what school you attended, only that you are a competent and professional dentist.
What are the dental school rankings? Which dental school is the best? What are the top 10 dental schools? Questions that comes up quite often with undergaduates who are thinking of applying to dental school.
The truth is that dental schools are not ranked in the United States. There have been, in the past, two different rankings for dental schools. Those were listed by US News & World Report and by The Gourman Report.
The last time these figures were reported was in 1993. It was at that time that dental schools decided to stop cooperating with publications that were attempting to rank dental schools. The reason behind this was that dental schools did not feel that the rankings were accurately depicting the quality of the individual institution. Factors that were not necessarily relevant to the institutions quality of teaching were used to make determinations about what is “best”.

i hear loadz of different thingz.
but i no 4 a fact that univerisity of harvard, michigan and north carolina are the top three. i think the texas 1 cumz 4th. but every1 shud aim at harvard, michigan and north carolina. personally, i am going to apply to the university of michigan as my 1st choice

If what you claim is a fact, then state your source. If you notice, Harvard ranked 6th in the last Gourman Report, so don’t be so fast to assume that just because they have name recognition that they are the best school.

It is all about cost of attendance. The schools all focus on their own methods and interests so some schools may fit the students’ personalities a little better or worse. However, in the end you’ll have the ability to practice dentistry and/or specialize. No one in or at dental schools and no patient cares about Dr. Gourman’s report. Follow their lead.

Nonsense. Leaving out private schools like UPacific, UPenn, Tufts, and Columbia in favor of huge state school programs is absurd. I suspect that tuition cost had a disproportionately large impact on Gourman’s rankings.
